Group Therapy

Healing Through Community

As social creatures, we thrive in connection. Group therapy offers a unique opportunity for collective healing, rooted in the belief that, as bell hooks in All About Love (1999) states, “Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” I enjoy group and community work because of the many possibilities we get to co-create—spaces where participants can explore their paradoxical feelings of hyper-visibility and invisibility and find ways to build resilience, empathy, and meaningful connection.

A Philosophy of Inclusion and Transformation

Building community in group therapy requires intentional effort to challenge social norms that perpetuate domination and exclusion. My approach integrates trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care with systemic, narrative, and somatic practices, fostering a safe and affirming environment for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. Together, we co-create transformative experiences, addressing personal and societal challenges to turn isolation into connection and pain into purpose, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

“The fact that we know that we go to a place where there are other people like us, going through things, sharing lives and connecting face to face, you can feel the care in this space. I know that I can show up however I show up and that's ok. That feels like care.” - O.S.

Offerings

I offer two types of group therapy tailored to meet different needs in mental health growth and resilience of LGBTQIA2S+ people.

The first is a DBT Skills Training Group, ideal for those newer to addressing mental health concerns. This group focuses on building foundational skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

The second is a DBT Process Group, designed for individuals with prior DBT experience who are looking to maintain or deepen their resilience. This group emphasizes applying DBT skills to current challenges while fostering personal growth through shared experiences and deeper self-reflection. Both groups provide supportive, structured environments for meaningful progress.
